What Our Children Think About Global Warming

March 12th, 2007

Global warming is upon us. Ultimately, in the next 100 years, the people of this world need to unite together to fix the environmental problem we created. The future of mankind is at stake. World leaders, everyday moms and dads, and executives are currently trying to come up with a solution for this growing problem. However, perhaps the most important thing we should be asking is what our children think about global warming. This world is their future. It is not only our job, but also our children’s job to find a solution to global warming.

We live in a society that waits for nothing. It is my fear that our children won’t have the patience to correct global warming. Each and every little step we can do to protect the air pollution is a step in the right direction. Limiting our driving, buying more fuel efficient cars, and buying energy efficient light bulbs are all small things we can do to fix the global warming problem. However, if our children can’t immediately see results, will they continue to conserve?

Children will follow in our lead with energy conservation. If we as parents conserve, our children will be more likely to conserve. However, in my community I do not see many families conserving ANYTHING. This worries me. If everyone has the mindset that one person can’t make a difference, global warming is inevitable. Our children will follow our same non conservation ways and mankind will be doomed.

I asked a few children at my church what they knew about global warming. They had all heard the topic, but neither really understood the gravity of the global warming issue. They said that the earth was slowly getting warmer due to air pollution. However, what they failed to tell me is that the warming of the earth will eventually change the whole landscape of civilization. Although I believe children should not be told about global warming just to scare them, I believe they should know the whole story. Our generation will be leaving them with this issue. If they k now ahead of time what they are getting into, there will be more chance of success.

Global warming is an obvious issue that scares almost all adults. The more aware our children are, the more help they will be at fixing the problem in the future. Our children hold the future of global warming, so we better be preparing them early.

you’re absolutely right. It will take a major change of mindset for multiple generations to make people do anything towards helping global warming. I think it comes from this self-serving attitude that stems from our incredible amount of wealth. I know that if we couldn’t afford to buy or do the things that hurt the environment, then we wouldn’t, but since the majority of Americans can afford to do those things and not conserve, then I think it won’t change until it’s too late.

You are right, the children are the future of the generations to come. Surely enough if people weren’t so lazy, or cared about global warming this wouldn’t be a problem. But surely enough we need an attitude check, the world is heating up and all the people care about is the internet, watching television, and stuff like that. I think one little change could make a huge and effective difference. So tonight, when you’re going to bed, turn off the lights, turn off the television and sleep.

A little change will make little difference, a radical change will make……..a slow process of recovery. The fact is, that a chain reaction may already have been initiated that we cannot control. It is therefore all fine and well educating children, but they need to be educated correctly. They need to be taught how to deal with the outcome, not just what the outcome will be; here we have a dilema, because there is some debate on this.

Glabal warming is taking its toll on the planet.
If we dont help stop it, it will only get worse.
So think about that the next time you throw your trash on the ground because your to lazy to throw it in the garbage can 2 feet away from you.
Or when its prom night and you go through 3 cans of hairspray just to keep your hair in place.
Or when your parents decided to buy the biggest SUV out there and all it does is guzzle gas and pollute the air even more than it already it.
