October 7th, 2005Ever wondered how many words are in the average person’s vocabulary? Did you know there are words that have no rhymes? The following paragraphs will take a brief look at some Whacky Word Facts.
Do you know how many words in the English can be spelled backwards, and the word doesn’t change? Racecar, kayak, and radar are three of them. Whether they are read from left to right, or right to left, the words still remains the same. This rule also applies to “A man a plan a canal panama”.
Do you know the shortest sentence in the English language? It is “Go.”. It is understood that the subject would be “You”, thus a subject and a verb.
How many words does the average person have in their vocabulary? The average person uses 5,000 - 6,000 different words in their lifetime.
Surely every word has a rhyme, right? Wrong! The word “month” has no word that rhymes with it. “Orange” used to be in that category, but if you use two words, “door hinge” would work.
Do you know which word in the English language has the most definitions? The word “set” tops the charts in that category.
And finally, guess how many times an average person laughs in a day. The average person laughs or giggles at least 15 times a day.
