Types of Depression

Depression is one of the most common mental diseases in the world. It is very hard though for a person to distinguish if he or she is really depressed or just plain sad. Being sad could be the start of major depressions. But the person must feel sad, worthless or hopeless for the span of two weeks continuous. The person should also have felt that he or she has lost interest in certain things he or she usually enjoys. Those are only some of the signs a depressed person experiences. If you think you are depressed, there are lots of test online that can help you find out. However, it is better if you get expert advice from psychiatrist. Here are the various kinds of depression.

Major Depression:
This is the most common type of depression. The person who suffers this will often look or experience feeling that the whole world is on his or her shoulders. The person will always seem to be uninterested in all of the usual activities that he or she usually does with ease. The person also feels that he or she will always be in a hopeless state. The person will also lose interest in sexual activity. The person may also have changes with his or her appetite. He or she may either eat more or eat less.

Atypical Depression:
This depression is slightly different from the major depression because it is really a variation of depression. Happiness and elation is sometimes experienced by the person suffering. This depression includes symptoms of overeating, weight gain, over sleeping, and fatigue. Atypical depression sufferers believe that it is the outside factors such as success, attention, praise, etc, that control their moods. A person suffering from this kind of depression will suffer for months or may live with it forever.

Psychotic Depression:
A person who suffers psychotic depression will believe that he or she sees and hears things that do not really exist. He or she will experience hallucinations that are more common suffering from schizophrenia. The hallucinations the depressed person sees are not a positive image. Instead it is scary or frightening hallucinations.

Dysthymia:
A person will just walk around looking really blue, melancholic, or sad. This is a condition that most people will never be aware of, but they are affected by it. They just live with this condition in their daily lives. They don’t enjoy their lives because they always feel unimportant, frightened or dissatisfied. There is medication for this type of medication that can help a lot.

Manic Depression:
These types of people who suffer from this kind of depression have rapid changes of moods. Manic depressive have high rates of being suicidal.
