In 1980 the very first Pac-Man arcade machine made its legendary debut in the United States, bringing in over $1 billion dollars within the first 18 months.

Sandra Day O’Conner, who began practicing law in the 1950s, became the first woman o serve on the Supreme Court on September 25, 1981.

Paperback books first made their appearance in America in the late 19th century, selling for just 10 cents. Fading from sight with wartime rationing, they reappeared in 1939 selling for 25 cents, changing forever the way we read.

When chemist Spencer Silver concocted a particularly weak kind of glue in 1964, the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing (3M) Company thought it was useless. Ten years later, the first Post-Its resulted, quickly becoming an office supply essential.

Red ribbons were first used as a visual aid to heighten awareness of AIDS in 1991.
