Strange Dog Fact

October 20th, 2005

· Most domestic dogs can run up to 32 miles per hour. Greyhounds and their kin can reach speeds in access of 70 miles per hour.

· Male dogs urinate by lifting their legs and marking their territory. When another dog comes by, it can tell how big the dog is and if it’s in optimum health.

· Purebred dogs include 701 different types, broken down into six group, which are: toys, hounds, herding, sporting, non-sporting and working.

· Never blow into your dog’s ear. A gentle blow has the frequency comparable to screeching chalk on a blackboard multiplied 100 times. Ouch!

I didn’t know that about dogs.

I found the trivia fact about the dog’s ear and blowing into very interesting. I’ve seen people do this and dogs do react to it in a negative way.

Very interesting about how dogs mark their territory. I did know that, but didn’t realize other dogs could tell so much from the mark.

Anyone who blows in their dogs ear shouldn’t be allowed to own a dog. It is excruitiatingly painful for them. Great trivia. I hope you will write more dog trivia. People need to be educated. How about something on larger breeds, which most people have little knowledge of?
