Scuba Diving
October 28th, 2005Scuba diving can be one of the most intriguing adventures you will ever experience. It is like entering another world for a short period of time. Dive into a place of tranquility, away from the pressures of everyday life and enjoy the beauty of aquatic life.
Keep in mind that there are certain dangers associated with scuba diving, and take some necessary precautions to ensure that memories of your diving trip are all happy ones.
First, do not dive if you have not been certified, unless your are accompanied by a trained professional. Also, even if you consider yourself an adept diver, it is not a good idea to dive alone. If an emergency arises, you will be glad someone is available to assist you.
Never dive if you are suffering from a cold, sinus infection, or allergies. Decongestants and antihistamines may make you drowsy, and you need to remain fully alert throughout a dive. Also, such medications can wear off during a dive, and may cause pressurized air to become trapped in the middle ear. This is known as a reverse block, and you won’t be able to clear or equalize your ears before ascending to the surface.
You should never wear earplugs either. Not only do they impede the process of clearing your ears, they can also be forced too far into the ear canal due to pressure. This can cause pain and damage, as well as making it difficult to remove the earplugs.
Other things to keep in mind are weather conditions and water conditions for the date of your dive. Remember to bring along medication for seasickness as well, even if you don’t regularly experience this type of discomfort. It is much better to have it and not need it then to have your trip ruined by a choppy sea.
Finally, be aware of dangerous aquatic life specific to whichever area you intend to dive and keep your distance.
Keeping safe and being prepared are the best ways to insure that your diving experience is one you will remember happily for many years to come.

Hey gang, there’s more new trivia. Wonderful! I love coming here, as I learn so many new things. This is an educational site if I ever saw one. I’m going to send my friends here.
I have always wanted to scuba dive. I have heard so much about it. It would be wonderful to see the world underwater. And there’s so much of it that isn’t discovered. I wonder what it’s like to visit Australia’s Great Barrier Reef?

There are places in the tropics and Australia where they will give you a crash course on diving before you take a recreational tour of a reef. This is enough to let you know if you want to pursue diving, as it is a very expensive sport.

I’m glad to see that you have added an adventure category. I would like an article on white water rafting, or even some true trivia facts. Enjoyed this info on scuba diving. It’s something I’d like to try sometime.
