It’s America’s most well known wine –producing center. It’s home to almost 400 wineries and it’s lovely, but how much do you know about California’s Napa Valley. Test your knowledge with these facts about Napa Valley.

Charles Krug is Napa’s oldest, continuously operating winery. It opened in 1861 and never closed during prohibition.

Napa Valley accounts for just four percent of the California’s wine production.

The Napa Valley welcome sign reads “and the wine is bottled poetry.” These words were written by Robert Louis Stevenson, who spent his honeymoon in Napa.

Napa Valley is California’s number one tourist attraction, with over 5.5 million visitors per year.

The Napa Valley encompasses over 450,000 acres, with slightly over 45,000 of them planted in grape vines.

Napa Valley’s first grape vines were planted in 1838-1839 by George Yount, for whom the town, Yountville, is named.

In the late 19th century, Los Angeles had ten times as many grape vines as did Napa Valley.

Napa Valley wines were imported by 164 countries in 2004.

Napa Valley has 704 wine growers and 391 bricks-and-mortar wineries.

The Napa Valley is only thirty miles long and five miles wide at its widest point.

Nearly sixty percent of Napa’s wineries produce fewer than 10,000 cases annually. Most are small family-run operations.
