Hawaii Fact
October 11th, 2005The weather is wonderful in Hawaii. The Island has only two seasons. In summer, the average temperature is 85º F. In winter it’s 78º F.
Trade winds help to keep humidity at a comfortable level and keep the Island cool.
The leeside of the Island is protected from prevailing winds and is dry and sunny. The windward side of the Island is tropical, lush and wet.
On the wet side of the Island, showers last a short time, but they create beautifully bright rainbows that will leave your breathless.
Though English is the official language of Hawaii, a range of languages from Asia, South America and Europe are also spoken and you’ll be delighted with the local “pidgin” dialect.
Always lock your car when in Hawaii. Use the same common sense you would use anywhere in the world. Keep your valuables on your person. Call 911 in emergencies to reach ambulance, fire and police personnel.
Never swim in the ocean if warned to keep out. Always obey signage at the local beaches. These alert tourists and locals alike to rip tides, high surf, rough ocean conditions sharks and jellyfish.
Check with park rangers before hiking in wilderness area.
Stay in a group when going outside of tourist areas and don’t go into these areas at night. Though the crime rate in Hawaii is low, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Hawaii is one place I would love to go. They say the orchids grow on the sides of the cliffs and in the trees. I would love to see that and also the monument to the Arizona, among other things. Thanks for all the great info.

I dream of a Hawaiian vacation and your trivia makes me even more determined that one day I will be able to go there. I would love to visit this exotic destination. I’ve known people who’ve visited and they say it is awesome.

… oh and as for a “official language”. The United States doesn’t have an official language and Hawaii is a state. (though, right now, there is a lot of dissension among Native Hawaiians)
There are so many languages you can hear, it’s wonderful! Hawaii is a place everyone should visit to see how so many different people live together in harmony, while still holding onto their pride of their culture.
