Yes. The World Series is often called the “Fall Classic,” and it was at different times known as the National Championship, the World Championship, and the Championship of the United States.
When did the World Series begin and who competed in it?
The first official Series was played in 1903, between Boston and Pittsburgh. It required the winning team to score the best out of nine games rather than seven. The Americans beat the Pittsburgh Pirates five games to three, ending the Series after the eighth game.
