What comes to mind when the name Abraham Lincoln is mentioned? Some of the things that one remembers are the five dollar bill, the Confederacy, and the Gettysburg address. Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg address became the foundation of many democracies because of the phrase “… this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

However, the Gettysburg address is not the only set of inspiring words attributed to Abraham Lincoln. During his Second Inaugural Address, Abraham Lincoln wrote moving words in the spirit of reconciliation: “With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation’s wounds…”

Abraham Lincoln, obviously, has a way words. But this is not a result of being among scholars. Born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky, Abraham Lincoln educated himself while working as a clerk at a general store out on the frontier. Abraham Lincoln’s unusual education made his views regarding freedom and slavery untainted by prejudices. Thus, Abraham Lincoln led the Union through the Civil War. And he proclaimed the freedom of Confederate Slaves.

· On April 14, 1865, Good Friday, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. He was watching the play “Our American Cousin”. Upon Abraham Lincoln’s death, Andrew Johnson took over the presidency.
· A week before his death, Abraham Lincoln had already dreamed that he had died.

· Abraham Lincoln was the first president to ever sport a beard. This is an indulgent response to an 11-year old girl who suggested that he should wear a beard.
· Abraham Lincoln married Mary Todd and had four boys.
· Abraham was the tallest president. He has a towering height of 6 feet and four inches.
· Abraham Lincoln’s favorite author is Edgar Allan Poe, and his favorite sport is wrestling.
· Abraham Lincoln is the only president to obtain a patent for a device that will safely a boat which is sailing over shoals.
· Named after his grandfather, Abraham Lincoln named his cat “Bob”, his turkey “Jack”, and his dog “Jib”
